Planet Made Of Diamond
The 55 Cancri E
1. Discovery: 55 Cancri e was discovered in 2004 by a team of astronomers led by Debra Fischer at the University of California, Berkeley. It was one of the first super-Earths (exoplanets with masses between Earth and Neptune) to be discovered. 2. Characteristics: 55 Cancri e is an exoplanet with a radius about twice that of Earth and a mass about eight times greater than Earth's. It is classified as a super-Earth and is located very close to its host star, completing an orbit in just 18 hours. 3. Composition: 55 Cancri e is believed to have a rocky composition, similar to Earth, but with a surface temperature that can reach up to 2,400 degrees Celsius (4,352 degrees Fahrenheit). This extreme temperature is due to its close proximity to its host star. 4. Density: The high density of 55 Cancri e suggests that it is likely composed of mostly carbon-rich materials, such as diamond or graphite, rather than water or gas. This has led to its nickname as the "diamond planet."
