Your Only Call To Heaven How should we talk to God in prayers?
We must talk to God in spirit, in truth and in the name of Jesus Christ.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” - John 4:24 (NKJV)
And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, Whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” - John 16:23 (NKJV)
Why should we pray?
And call on me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” - Psalms 50:15 (NKJV)
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” - James 5:15-16 (NKJV)
How should we pray?
And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly. But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not you therefore like to them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him. After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” - Matthew 6:5-15 (NKJV)
How prayer should be?
Honest and confidential:
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” - James 1:6-7 (NKJV)
Humble:
But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” - James 4:6 (NKJV)
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.” - Proverbs 15:33 (NKJV)
Persistent:
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” - Romans 12:12 (NKJV)
Conciliatory:
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” - Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV)
Repentant:
Now we know that God hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, him he hears.” - John 9:31 (NKJV)
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” - Luke 18:13 (NKJV)
According to His will:
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.” - Matthew 26:39 (NKJV)
What should we pray for?
But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” - Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you;” - Matthew 5:44 (NKJV)
Prayer as a worship
In prayers, we have not only to pray and to thank to God, but we have to also worship Him.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.” - Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endures for ever.” - Psalms 107:1 (NKJV)
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” - Psalms 103:2 (NKJV)
When should we pray to God and worship Him?
Rejoice ever more. Pray without ceasing.” - 1. Thessalonians 5:16-17 (NKJV)
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the middle of them.” - Matthew 18:20 (NKJV)
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.” - Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV)
