The Black Magic Of Maths
Japanese Multipilication
Also known as the lattice method or the grid method, is an alternative technique used for multiplying numbers. 1. Methodology: The Japanese multiplication method involves creating a grid-like structure to perform the multiplication. The grid consists of rows and columns that intersect to form smaller boxes. 2. Grid Formation: To begin, draw a vertical line on the left side of the paper and a horizontal line at the top. These lines will serve as the framework for the grid. 3. Digit Placement: Write one of the numbers being multiplied along the top of the grid, and the other number along the left side. Each digit of both numbers should be placed in a separate box within the grid. 4. Box Multiplication: Multiply the digits in each box, placing the product in the corresponding box within the grid. For example, if you are multiplying a digit from the top row with a digit from the left column, place their product in the box where their row and column intersect. 5. Diagonal Addition: After completing all the box multiplications, draw diagonal lines starting from the bottom-right corner of each box and moving towards the top-left corner. Add up the numbers along each diagonal line.
