Lourdes has since become an important pilgrimage site for Catholics. 3. Fatima, Portugal (1917): The apparitions of Mary in Fatima, Portugal, are among the most widely recognized and studied. From May to October 1917, three shepherd children—Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto—reported seeing the Virgin Mary. Mary allegedly imparted messages, known as the Three Secrets of Fatima, which included predictions about world events and the need for repentance and devotion.

The alleged apparitions continue to this day, and millions of pilgrims have visited the site. The Catholic Church has not officially recognized these apparitions, but they remain subject to ongoing investigation. 5. Knock, Ireland (1879): In the small village of Knock, County Mayo, Ireland, fifteen people claimed to have witnessed an apparition of Mary, along with Saint Joseph, Saint John the Evangelist, and a lamb on an altar, on August 21, 1879.
